Animals in Our Class
Former Stony Brook Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Hahn visited our classroom. She brought some of her "pets".
We were thrilled to see a snake, snake skin, various turtles and a rat close up. The rat was adorable. We learned that snakes shed their skin, snakes and turtles come from eggs, and rats are very smart.

We hatched chicks in our class! After the incubator they went into their second home (above)- the brooder box. The brooder box was simply a plastic storage box with eight holes (about the size of a quarter) drilled on the sides for air circulation during transport back to the farm. The chicks slept on pine shavings. Their food and water was kept to one side to keep their home clean. A lamp was hooked on the side of the box to shine in and provide the warmth that the chicks must have. The box lid was placed over the food and water area to try to keep as much warmth in as possible.
