The Dentist Visits
2000-2001
We were very fortunate to have a visit from my dentist, Dr. Lewis, this year. What a terrific presentation! The students were fascinated. We learned that children ages five and six usually have 20 teeth and that adults have 32. We got to see x-ray film. It's green before it develops! After it is developed it turns black.
Dr. Lewis stressed the importance of good nutrition to keep our teeth healthy. We all need to eat healthy foods and cut down on sweets. We know that it is important to brush and floss our teeth each day. Good nutrition and cleaning our teeth will keep us from getting cavities. Cavities are holes in our teeth made from acid that germs secrete. The students got to take turns to be a dentist or hygienist. Dr. Lewis allowed them to fill cavities and make fillings with the materials he brought in for us. Thanks, Dr. Lewis!

Dr. Lewis lets us know that the dentist is our friend.
