It takes 21 days for the chicks to grow inside their egg. While chicks grow inside the egg they eat the yolk and white.

At the top of this photo you can see a chick emerging from the egg. When chicks first come out they are wet. They stay in the incubator until they have dried up a bit and become fluffier.
