The Happy Chart
Below you can see a photo of the chart I use for management and discipline. The chart is made by sealing and cutting long envelopes to make pockets. I glue these on to oaktag. Each student's name is written on one of the "pockets". The chart serves a dual purpose. In the beginning it helps the children to learn to recognize their name and that of their friends. When they enter in the morning they turn their card over from the blank side to the happy face to indicate that they are here. If during the day I have to speak to them more than three times because they are not following the rules their card gets turned upside down to the sad side. This is quite effective. The children really do not like to see their card turned to the sad side.
