The classroom emphasis is to "catch them being good". Positive attention, praise and rewards are given to students who are good. Poor behavior is downplayed. Students are not rewarded simply for not being bad. Good manners are emphasized.

In our classroom birthdays are celebrated in the following way-

Child receives a birthday crown.
Child receives a little gift from the teacher.
The class sings "Happy Birthday".

You are welcome to send in a birthday treat such as cookies and cupcakes. If you do send in cupcakes, please also send in the small kind or plates and napkins as cupcakes can be quite messy.

If your child’s birthday falls during the summer we can celebrate your child’s "half" birthday. Please let me know if you would like to do that.

Students are to bring in a box of cookies or crackers that will be shared by the whole class. A letter will be sent home to notify you when it is your child’s turn to bring in snack. Snack is an energizing break in the day- not a meal. Each child receives three-four cookies. Please make sure that your child eats breakfast.

Clothing

Please send your child to school in clothes appropriate for learning. Do not send your child so "dressed up" that you might be concerned about him or her getting dirty. Kindergarten activities are often a little "messy". Please have your child wear shoes that are good for running and active movement.

Supplies

Your child will need a backpack and folder that I can send their completed work in and homework. Please check your child's folder each day. When sending money to school (cash or check), please put it in a sealed envelope with your child's name, what the money is for, and the teacher's name. This will ensure that all money gets to the school and we know what to do with it.
